About the talk

As students move through the MYP program, student assessment often becomes increasingly focused on tests and may preclude more authentic opportunities for feedback and iterative learning. By changing how we think about the traditional forms of assessment in Math, students can engage in small, daily assessments. This will allow for consistent opportunities for the teacher and students to identify areas of growth that can be addressed immediately. This shift in focus opens up more available time to engage in culminating, interdisciplinary projects that become part of the feedback loop.

Stephanie Chin
Teaching was always at the back of Stephanie's mind but always an idea. A graduate of Bishop's University, she holds an honours degree in Fine Arts and Mathematics. It was only upon completion that teaching held so much appeal. From there she attended SUNY Potsdam to earn a Masters of Teaching and then the University of Waterloo for a Masters of Mathematics for Teachers. Stephanie has been a teacher for 15 years, first at a boarding school with a focus on the AP program and then at Elmwood School as the head of the department in mathematics in an IB World School. In that time she has been fortunate to work with many creative and talented educators to develop and explore different methods of assessment.
Geraldine De Fazio
Gerry helps amplify innovation in education using her superpowers of kindness, curiosity and enthusiasm. Currently she serves as the Director of Learning, Strategy and Innovation at Montcrest School. Drawing on her experience as teacher and coordinator (PYP/MYP), she has worked with schools all over the world facilitating workshops, coaching and consulting for organizations including the IB and NoTosh.
