About the Talk 

In this keynote, Jo suggests there are 2 forms of mathematics – one that makes people feel inadequate and uninspired and another that causes people to believe in their limitless potential and their ability to be creative with mathematical ideas. You will investigate how different math tasks cause learners to view mathematics and themselves differently. Through this session, think about ways to use math to liberate students. Dr. Jo Boaler
Dr. Jo Boaler is the Nomellini & Olivier Professor of Education at Stanford University. Her former roles have included being the Marie Curie Professor of Mathematics Education in England and a mathematics teacher in London comprehensive schools. She is the author of 14 books and numerous articles and she has presented her research at the White House. Her latest book, published by Harper Collins is called: Limitless Mind: Learn, Lead and Live without Barriers. She founded youcubed.org to give teachers, parents and students the resources they need to make math exciting, fun, and engaging! The BBC named her one of the 8 educators "changing the face of education"
