About the talk

Puppets can take on the persona of characters from history, science, politics, art and more! They can tell stories, talk about their feelings, likes or dislikes and instigate sharing and interaction between people. In this immersive session with Founder, You and Me Puppets, Judith O’Hare, construct a simple open mouth puppet and develop a character by responding to specific prompts and questions. Your puppet will become a character and you will become the puppeteer. Through this experiential experience, learn the nuts and bolts of creative puppet play as you communicate through movement and voice. The engagement involves visual arts, language arts, active listening, remembering, and oral expression. Join in and fashion your puppet at home or practice with a pre-created puppet instead.

For the best experience, keep the following handy as you tune in –

  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Magic markers, crayons, colour pencils or anything else you may need to colour

Judith O’Hare
Judith O’Hare is an award winning puppeteer teaching artist, an international teacher trainer of puppetry in education, and a co-editor of the book, Puppetry in Education and Therapy: Unlocking Doors to the Mind and Heart. Her passion lies is theatre and puppetry, specifically their expression in education, for which she has received a special award from the community in Reading, MA. for her contribution to the arts. She's also been awarded for her service to The Northeast Region of the Puppeteers of America for creating and directing “Puppets: Education Magic”, and the prestigious Marjorie Batchelder McPharlin Award for Puppetry in Education from the Puppeteers of America.
