About the talk

Forestry and the preservation of our trees is listed as one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. To make this a reality, it is essential that we change our and our childrens’ attitude to truly care for our forests. We need to inculcate a love for wood and an understanding of why we need to conserve this magical resource.

In this session with experienced IB educator and consultant, Anne Evans, explore wood as a developmentally appropriate tool to build your own resource bank of Math and logic games and gorgeous Art projects. Apply the skills of problem-solving and engineering to instill a spirit of ‘I can fix that problem/ handle this emergency’. In the end, you will have developed your own activities that your children will truly love.

Be sure to bring these materials for a truly immersive experience –

Wood (about the size of a book)
Nails (about a dozen) and/or cup hooks, rubber bands, yarn or knitting wool
Hammer
Pencil and ruler
Plate (dessert size)

Anne-Marie Evans is an international consultant and education advisor to governments, districts and schools around the world. Through her 50 year career, she has gathered a vast range of experience, including founding Cascade Canyon School, advising on school reform in Qatar, supporting schools in Iran and Hong Kong and working with IB schools in a range of roles across the world. With unparalleled experience in the PYP, Anne has twice been a speaker at the World Forum on Early Care and Education. She holds a Teachers Certificate from the University of London and a Masters in Education from Greenwich University. She continues to work as an IB curriculum developer, consultant, and more.
