About Understanding by Design (UbD®):

UbD® is a planning framework created by Jay McTighe and Grant Wiggins, built with the aim of aiding educators in intentional curriculum design. It encourages educators to constantly think about what is worth learning. It follows a backwards design process, encouraging educators to identify desired results in stage 1, determining acceptable evidence in stage 2 and creating engaging and rigorous learning plans in stage 3. UbD® – now widely used and lauded the world over – focuses strongly on alignment between these stages and across the unit plan, in order to facilitate students meaning-making and achieve the aim of learning which is true understanding.
