About the Talk

As much of the world has turned to technology to support opportunities for learning in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers who may have previously resisted blended learning, flipped classrooms, and technology applications are now rapidly upskilling. But beyond clever learning management systems, curated content and engagingly innovative apps, what really matters when we consider how technology supports learning? Do we all need to be app smashing, or is good pedagogy just good pedagogy that transfers? How can we consider technology through the lens of transforming learning? Considering 21st century competencies, the UN sustainable goals, and the diverse range of learner needs, our internationally experienced panel of coaches, designers, educators, and integrators share specific approaches which take into account, purpose, context and effectiveness in enhancing learning.

John Mikton

John Mikton is Head of Education and Media Technology/Deputy Principal at the International School of Luxembourg. He facilitates the Technology Leadership course at the Principal Training Center and is also a Learning2 Community Coach, Trainer at the Institut de formation de l’Éducation nationale du Luxembourg and Appsevents presenter. He has 25 years experience working in Education and Media Technology and 15 years as a Senior Leadership Team member in International Schools in Africa, Asia and Europe.

Sarah Gilmore

Sarah Gilmore is an EdTech Integration Specialist at Berlin International School in Berlin, Germany. She has taught internationally for many years as an Elementary classroom teacher, before specializing in the use of technology to enhance learning across the curriculum. In addition to her teaching and coaching work, Sarah presents at conferences and workshops internationally. She is the co-founder of Intechgrate.eu with Katierose Deos, where she consults with schools and their teachers on integrating technology into wider teaching and learning. Sarah and Katierose recently co-authored ‘Integrating Technology’ published by Heinemann.

Luke Meinen

Luke Meinen is the manager of LEVEL 5, Bahrain where he coordinates events and workshops and facilitates learning experiences for teachers and educational leaders around a wide range of topics focused on physical and digital design, contemporary pedagogy, and innovative leadership. As a learning coach at Riffa Views International School, he supports teachers with leveraging technology to enhance student learning.

Emily Roth

As an activist for innovative teaching and learning, Emily Roth serves as the principal of a K-8 school in St. Louis, Missouri. After teaching and tech coaching for 12 years in the U.S., Trinidad and Tobago, Guatemala, the United Arab Emirates, and Malaysia, Emily spent several years working with district leadership teams across the U.S. through The Jacobs’ Institute for Innovation in Education at The University of San Diego and Digital Promise, the nonprofit commissioned by the White House. Emily is passionate about globalizing the classroom, leveraging tech to deepen learning, and giving students opportunities to make a real difference in this world.

Dr. Lynne Herr

Dr. Lynne Herr believes in the power of technology to equip educators for powerful learning and change. Her current work includes: digital teaching and learning specialist at Educational Service Unit 6 in Milford, Nebraska, tech learning consultant, Marzano Research associate and adjunct graduate instructor. Between jobs, she loves to spend time serving educators as a volunteer: 15+ year board member of the Nebraska Educational Technology Association (NETA), co-founder and presenter coordinator of the Great Plains Summit, and leader of state-wide technology boot camps for school administrators. Lynne is a Google Certified Innovator and Trainer, Breakout EDU Certified Game Designer and Trainer and co-leader of the Global Educator Collective. She has co-authored The Unified Learning Model: How Motivational, Cognitive, and Neurobiological Sciences Inform Best Teaching Practices 2010th Edition.

Kirsten Durward

Kirsten Durward is a concept based instruction trainer and cognitive coach with IB school leadership experience over 4 continents. She has worked with tens of thousands of educators to expand thinking, develop skills and empower self directed efficacy. Kirsten founded the volunteer run PLN ‘Global Educator Collective’ and the professional development platform, 'Global Learning Connections', providing tailored practical professional learning. She works with organisations, educators and schools to improve teaching and learning and currently consults for Toddle on the development of Community and Professional Learning events.
