Thomas Guskey

Professor Emeritus, University of Kentucky

Thomas R. Guskey, PhD, is Professor Emeritus at the University of Kentucky’s College of Education. A former middle school teacher and administrator in Chicago Public Schools, he was the first Director of the Center for the Improvement of Teaching and Learning. Dr. Guskey is a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association and has authored or edited 30 books, including Engaging Parents and Families in Grading Reforms (2024) and Implementing Mastery Learning (2023).

Rose Colby

Competency Education Specialist

Rose Colby is a Competency-Based Learning and Assessment Specialist, working with schools and state agencies to design competency, assessment, and grading reforms. A Talent Cloud Fellow with 2Revolutions, Rose is the author of Deeper Competency-Based Learning and Competency-Based Education. She also serves as an adjunct professor at Spalding University and has received the 2015 Dennise Maslakowski Memorial Award in Education.
